OK, so yesterday Ferrari revealed the all-new V6, powered 296 GTB. And the internet is buzzing, or at least the car world is. As usual, we like to take our time by slowly appreciating a brand new Ferrari launch. This isn’t the first Ferrari to have a mid-mounted V6 engine, that accolade rests with the Dino 246 which was produced between1967-1974. The all-new Ferrari 296 GTB is a twin-turbo-powered V6 Plugin Hybrid. The 2.9-liter V6 alone produces 654bhp. Combined with a 122-kilowatt electric motor and the total system power jumps to 819hp driving the rear wheels. The performance figures are neck-snapping, 0-62mph takes 2.9 seconds, the top speed maxes out at 206mph (330kph).

The 296 GTB’s 7.45-kilowatt battery provides an electric-only range of 16 miles (25km). We don’t expect a lot of future owners to actually bother with the recharging. Nevertheless, that power is channeled through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. As with all modern cars the 296 GTB has four drive modes, eDrive (denotes pure electric drive) Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify which is the full-fat performance mode.

Because the V6 hybrid engine is so compact, the overall dimensions of the 296 GTB are also compact. The front spoiler utilises a Tea-Tray profile to direct airflow underneath the body. The net result is a significant increase in front-end downforce. A active rear spoiler pops up at speeds of over 80mph. And the rear portion of roof has an integrated spoiler. It is seamlessly cut into the roof, the purpose is to improve airflow and stability at high speed.

The Ferrari 296 GTB can be further enhanced with improved aerodynamics and lightweight modifications with the optional Assetto Fiorano Package. And of course, the interior will be full of Ferrari luxury with the convenience of modern fully digital technology.  So how much will this cost? Pricing will start from 296,000 Euros or $321,342.
