Brabus do what Brabus do. They take an everyday expensive performance vehicle and ‘AK47’ it with engineering machine gun bravado. The German tuner has taken a ‘normal’ V8 twin-turbo, 563bhp AMG GLE 63 S and replaced the powerplant with a thermonuclear reactor. In reality, the engineering upgrades include an engine -remap, modified turbos and a stainless steel sports exhaust. All-in-all the engine tweaks boost power to 789bhp and 1,000 Nm (737lb-ft) of torque.
And this extra performance improves the 0-62mph sprint time to 3.4-seconds. A 0.4-second improvement over the originator. And if you dare, this Brabus tuned AMG GLE 63S can max to 174mph.
Brabus being Brabus has also blessed the exterior with a unique gym-toned steroid abused bodykit. The bespoke 24-inch alloy wheels complete the exterior look and the vehicle is suspended on retuned air suspension which can be lowered by 25mm. They also paid attention to the interior which receives a subtle retrim. The retrim features red colour accents to the leather-lined seats, steering wheel and carbon-fiber trim elements.
This bespoke attention to detail isn’t cheap. The Brabus AMG GLE 63S starts from $364,841. That is a 195k premium over the Mercedes GLE 63 S. The real question is this, is a 0.4-second gain really worth a price premium of $195k? No. To the German Prince clientele, this particular Brabus is all about exclusivity and a lot of bragging rights.
