The Ferrari Purosangue Is Difficult To Pronounce And Is Difficult to Accept.
Auto News

The Ferrari Purosangue SUV… never did I believe that one day Ferrari would succumb to the ever-changing tide of consumer demand. But the indicators were there, there is a deep sickness for a high-performance, ultra-luxury SUV. And never has there been a more difficult to pronounce SUV name. Thankfully we have Google translate which accurately pronounces spoken Italian and stops us from shredding the Romance language of the Indo-European language family. It’s best to break the word down into four parts, pu·ro·sàn·gue, AKA Purosangue which means thoroughbred. Ferrari is late to the supercar SUV party having been left in the shade by Aston Martin and Lamborghini… Bentley and to a lesser extent Rolls Royce.

The Purosangue is a belated response and is based on the Maserati Levante. It’s not so much a prancing horse but more… bloated horse. There is a high demand for high-performance luxury SUVs. For Ferrari this is simply profit not loss, there is no place or time for heritage. I imagine Enzo Ferrari is looking down from above in total disbelief. And if Luca Montezemolo was still in charge he would sacrifice SUV-profiteering to retain that Ferrari integrity, mystique, exclusivity and good old fashion heritage.

Ferrari’s current maxim is monkey-see-monkey-do and the lure of generating extra revenues (and dividends) is just too good to turn down. The Purosangue is currently going through its road-test campaign, little is known about the performance or specific technical details. But if we take a look at the Maserati Levante then one can extrapolate that the Ferrari Purosangue will be powered by a V6-hybrid and V8 engine. And we can also assume the interior will be luxuriously appointed. And the whole damn thing will cost a lot of money.

One person not making assumptions is digital artist Giorgi Tedoradze who rendered a highly convincing image based upon spy shots of test-mules. The Purosangue is expected to go on sale in 2022.
