Volkswagen spent over 25 years gaslighting the world, deliberately misinforming buyers about how clean their diesel engine technology was. In other words, VW committed lies and fraud on an almost industrial scale. Countless lives were lost as a result of VW’s dirty diesel engine technology, death by asphyxiation due to undisclosed and harmful levels of air-bourne particulates emitted by VW diesel engines. Yet they (VW) still retain the respect of the automotive industry. And of the countless number of lawyers who have enriched themselves by filing class action lawsuits against VW.
Yet despite the VW fraud, lies, deception, deaths, the willing PR lieutenants and career sociopaths providing distraction and cover for VW, both internal and external, VW is moving on. And so it seems is the consumer, specifically within Europe. The VW ID 3 Redemption Edition electric vehicle was Europe’s second best selling car during December 2020, in any category. It was beaten by the VW Golf with the Tesla Model 3 in 3rd position.
So what does this mean? Volkswagen can quite literally get away with murder and carry on as normal. The irony is Dieselgate, which hangs around VW’s corporate neck like a noose, actually kick-started the European sudden shift to electric cars. If VW hadn’t lied, cheated, defrauded and killed, European consumers would have carried on buying VW diesel cars as normal.
The ID 3 is not redemption for VW, it is admitting failure to disclose vital information that would have saved countless lives.
