Near Cinematic Playstation 5 Tech Demo Will Mean Superior Console Racing Simulators
Video

OK, so we had to find a way of talking about the Playstation 5, which is expected to launch around October/December 2020. Now… the underlying structure of a console game, indeed any game is made up of millions of triangles which behave as a kind of digital exoskeleton. Consoles are and always have been inferior gaming platforms when compared to a decently specced PC and certainly inferior compared to a high-end gaming PC.

When it goes on sale, the Playstation 5 will come close to an entry-level gaming PC, so it will pack a lot of computational power meaning instead of pushing millions of triangles, it will push multiple-billions. More triangles allow for more detail which means near photo-realistic real-time gaming as demonstrated in this video. Games are often made up of a number of “engines”. Gaming “engines” are individual algorithms that control physics, the lighting, and rendering.

Unreal Engine is a gaming platform developed by Epic Games and designed specifically for the development of platformers, fighting games, MMORPGs, and other RPGs. So, in layman’s terms, more power means better gaming experiences, that’s always been the case for every next-gen console. But with the PlayStation 5 we are seeing a generational leap. So what does this mean? Better driving games and proper race simulators… on a console.

A pure racing sim on the PS4 was never really possible because of the limitations of the hardware. GT Sport is the only console racing game that comes close to a true sim experience, but on the PS5 it will be a massive improvement technically and visually.
