So what is the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR? It’s a bog-standard 911 GT2 RS with the letters M and R add to the end. Those two letters will cost you $110,000. It’s still the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine that cranks out 700bhp, 211mph and 0-62mph in 2.6 seconds. The 911 GT2 RS will still set you back $300,000 before the MR upgrade. The upgrades are courtesy of Manthey Racing. Manthey Racing is a subsidiary of Porsche and specialises in the motor racing/endurance industry.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR package adds aero, wheel, suspension and tyre upgrades. Harris says that the cost of the upgrade sounds ridiculous until you experience it. We agree it does sound ridiculous. But this is Chris Harris and he loves Porsche more than any other car brand.

I have driven the 911 GT2 RS and it is an awesome machine beyond comparison to the standard 911 and the standard 911 is an awesome machine. But to spend an extra $110,000 on component upgrades sounds unnaturally expensive.

But having said that, there will be people with deep enough pockets who will not hesitate to spend much money. Admittedly it’s a small, niche, but at least they will be enthusiasts who will appreciate what the MR package delivers.
