The new Volkswagen Golf Mk8 is all new… although from looking at it you would be forgiven for thinking it is a mere mid-cycle refresh. The Mk8 Golf was officially revealed on October 24, but as usual, we wanted to take our time before reporting on it… we lost the invite… we missed our flight… Actually, we playing Pro Evolution 2020 on the Playstation 4 and completely forgot about the Golf Mk8 reveal.

Nevertheless, the “new” Golf is an evolution of the previous generation. It rides on an updated version of the MQB platform, with engine options consisting of compact petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. GTI and R variants will arrive in 2020, with more power than their predecessors.
