Lotus Type 130 Will Be Revealed Soon… But What Is It?

Lotus will be revealing the Type 130 on July 16. Doesn’t sound like much does it. Another car company releasing yet another model to a very limited target market. Even more so with Lotus whose target market is limited because it makes a limited amount of cars per year. But that is the lotus way folks.

However, under new Chinese owners, the same folks who own Volvo, Lotus’ fortunes may be about to change. You see the Type 130 is the first new car to made by Lotus in 10 years. And it won’t be yet another fast Lotus.

The Type 130 will be a full-on electric hypercar and will be built at Hethel in Norfolk, the brand’s headquarters since 1966. The underlying carbon fibre chassis of Type 130 will form the basis of all future Lotus’.

In other words, Lotus is borrowing a few ideas from McLaren Automotive’s product strategy.

Few details haven’t been revealed just yet but we do know the Type 130 is a joint collaboration between Lotus and Williams Advanced Engineering. The latter is an offshoot of Williams F1.

The Type 130 will be a 1,000bhp electric beast, four electric motors will provide the thrust. The range is expected to be around 250 miles. Exposed carbon fibre interior, with minimalist architecture, will keep the weight down to around 1,000kg.

Lotus will only make 130 examples, however, the company claims 700 people have registered an interest in buying.
