Der Neue BMW 8 Series Convertible Ist Premium-Luxusmüll?
Auto News

Hallo. Wir motivieren Journalisten and my German language skill-set is rather limited so we will be proper Englisch from now on. As you may know, the BMW 8 Series Convertible is now on sale in this dis-United Kingdom. Prices start from £82,295. Two engines will be offered at launch: a V8 petrol engine in the 530hp BMW M850i xDrive and a 320hp six-cylinder diesel in the BMW 840d xDrive. The M850i will set you back £107,100 Great Brexit Pounds (GBP).

When you pay £83k for an entry-level premium luxury convertible one thing is certain. You will still have to pay for optional extras. That’s how it is. The 8 Series Convertible has exceptional body rigidity so says BMW. But they always make such statements every time they release a new convertible.

It’s part marketing part reassurance. You repeat a lie often enough an people will believe you. But there are some truths to be found. The fabric roof takes 15 seconds to deploy and can be raised or lowered at speeds up to 31mph.

Optimized aerodynamics, M Sport exterior body trim, exclusive paint finishes, exclusive interior finishes, driver assists technologies, the latest infotainment technologies, M Sport Chassis with adaptive dampers. It’s all there… all of it.

We are not a marketing service for BMW nor are we a dealership. If you want to experience the art of being ripped off and being given assurances that a 3-year warranty is worth the paper it’s written on then we suggest you visit your local BMW dealership.

But would I buy a BMW 8 Series convertible?

No. I would never buy a convertible especially the BMW 8 Series. You see a convertible in the UK is about as appealing as voting for the Brexit Party in a general election. Convertibles do not work in the UK. I mean the roof mechanism works fine.

But I personally do not like the wind in my hair. I do not have any hair. I do not like the sun scorching down on the back of my neck. I do not like the wind in my face nor do I like the flies in my mouth. And no matter how much a strengthing is added you will always feel the body flexing.

So a convertible looks good in marketing, but in reality, it’s much ado about nothing. If you want to waste £85k then my advice is to give it one of the big charities.
