Perfect Peugeot e-Legend Concept Is Pure Electric Perfection
Auto News

Peugeot will reveal the e-Legend Concept, a fully autonomous, all-electric, fully connected sculpted perfection of a concept at the 2018 Paris Motorshow. Clearly, the Peugeot e-Legend Concept looks forward to the future of Peugeot’s design and technology philosophy. However, the exterior looks back to the future for its inspiration.

The design language is borrowed from the Peugeot 504 Coupe. The Peugeot e-Legend Concept isn’t a mere retro evocation of automotive heritage. Peugeot e-Legend Concept, rear, Dailycarblog.com The four-wheel drive Peugeot e-Legend Concept has a total system power rated at 465bhp and 800Nm of torque. Top speed is a claimed 167mph, 0-62 is reached in 3.7-seconds. Peugeot also claims a range of 373 miles. Rapid charging allows the 100kWh battery pack to be recharged from 0-80 percent in around 25-minutes. Peugeot e-Legend Concept, Interior, Dailycarblog.com The Peugeot e-Legend Concept features four driving modes, two autonomous and two manual modes. The autonomous modes are designed to create a relaxing environment. For example, the steering wheel retracts to reveal a 49-inch widescreen display. Peugeot e-Legend Concept, digital environment, Dailycarblog.com The manual modes are about driver focus, digital dash etc. However, one mode projects the road onto a large screen for a so-called 180-degree immersion. All automotive concepts are in some ways a publicity stunt. However, the electric powertrain in the Peugeot e-Legend Concept is viable now, but expensive to implement. Peugeot e-Legend Concept, 504 Coupe, Dailycarblog.com The future of the car will be about autonomous and digital technology. The electric powertrain has been around for 100 years. The electric engine is old technology. Early on, it was cheaper to make the internal combustion engine. Electric powered cars were seen as a niche. With environmental concerns driving change, government policy will force car manufacturers to revert back to this ‘niche’ technology. But this time, and eventually it will be offered on a mass scale. Peugeot e-Legend Concept, in-motion, Dailycarblog.com However, the future of the car will be about autonomous technology. This technology is still, in my opinion, at the crawl stage of evolution. Digital technology and not electric powertrains will dominate cars of the future. As computers grow ever increasingly more powerful autonomous technology will advance likewise. And, as the automotive industry transitions, somewhat reluctantly, to pure electric powertrains, electric cars will be an expensive alternative for the coming decade.
