There is no doubt that modern cars are far, far better built than they were 10 years ago and they are superior in every way to cars built over the last 40 years, from a technical and mechanical perspective, more efficient and more reliable. Over 40 years ago Mercedes Benz used to do proper luxury better than the equivalent Rolls Royce. Today, in 2017, Mercedes do pretend luxury. The present generation E Class looks expensive inside but feels cheap and the new S Class is a good attempt at putting Mercedes back on the luxury map. However, a modern Benz is no match for the Ultra Luxury Bentley’s and you can forget about a Mercedes ever matching the quality of a Rolls Royce ever again. Mercedes is now a manufacturer of mass luxury, they pump out cars at volume rates and this affects the quality up and down the model ranges from finish to reliability.
