Lonely Are The Brave, The New Volvo V70 Cross Country
Auto News
Volvo has almost 2 decades’ worth of experience when it comes to the Cross Country models, and that’s no surprise considering over three quarters of its home country, Sweden, is covered in forests and lakes.
The V90 Cross Country has been tested in all weather conditions, from -40 degrees in Sweden right up to the blisteringly hot termperatures Arizona boasts. There’s no doubt the rugged estate will be able to tackle whatever life, or the driver, throws at it.

Despite its protective cladding and raised ride height, the V90 Cross Country does not compromise its interior. The same stylish design is carried over from the S90 and V90, which means a class- topping portrait touchscreen and minimalistic design.

The V90 Cross Country replaces the prehistoric XC70, however it’s the V90 that the tech comes from, including the D4 and D5 engines that’ll be available from launch. It’s for this reason that we wouldn’t be mad to expect a T8 version further down the line.

Commenting about the new V70 Cross Country Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design at Volvo Cars, said “Designing a Volvo Cross Country is not a styling exercise, a plastic job. It is based on honest capability. The Volvo V90 Cross Country brings a surprising and intriguing combination of a strong, powerful exterior and a luxurious, Scandinavian interior. It will continue the genuine tradition of the Volvo Cross Country with a new recipe: the blend of powerful off-road capability in a most elegant, sophisticated, tailored wagon suit,”
It’s expected to go on sale in early 2017 carrying a hefty premium of £4,000 over the V90. Precise details and pricing will be announced closer to its launch.
