MG Reveals The New GS SUV
Auto News

MG used the London Motor Show as a platform to show off it’s British brewed and brand-new SUV, the GS. Besides from being MG’s first SUV, it’s also the first time that this resurrected brand has produced an automatic transmission. MG will offer a dual-clutch automatic ‘box in the UK as well as a standard manual transmission.

The MG GS will be made available in 3 trim levels to reflect the company’s clear pricing strategy and excellent value.

Yesterday’s model uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, however it’s next month that we can expect further tech specs as well as an idea regarding pricing.

What we already know about the GS is that it sits on a scalable SUV platform built in conjunction with Chinese automotive manufacturer SAIC, which could suggest compact SUV next year to rival the likes of the Nissan Juke.

However the GS is a mid-sized SUV measuring 4.5 m in length and has the Kia Sportage in its line of sight.

The Chinese model uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 217 bhp and 350 Nm. That’s quick enough to get to 62 mph in around 8 seconds.

The 6-speed dual-clutch transmission drives either the front wheels or all wheels, which is a layout that we can expect here in the UK.

It’s unlikely that the 2.0-litre petrol engine will arrive on our shores with strict CO2 emission laws, however a diesel engine wouldn’t go a miss.
