The only issue we have with electric powered cars is the lack of efficiency of current battery technology. That’s it. But maybe we had better start to embrace the future because this video proves a lack of efficiency is the future. This drag race pits a modified Ford GT which is tuned too deliver over 700bhp against Tesla’s most powerful Model S P90D which has a total power output of 751bhp. It isn’t just the horsepower of these two cars, it wouldn’t matter if both had 200bhp. Because the Tesla P90D has fewer moving parts its able to convert that electric energy into instant acceleration. Compare that to the old school Ford GT, the rear-wheel muscle car struggles to put its mechanical, moving parts, power down while the Tesla sprints instantly away at a stunning rate of knots/mph. The Tesla’s sprinting capabilities off the line may also be down to its superior traction control software, after all the Ford GT has had a lunatic power upgrade, perhaps a traction control upgrade might run things closer still. The For GT does eventually catch and pass the P90D but by then the race is almost over. The Tesla is the future, but we’d still go for the Ford, that sound.
