Volkswagen have revealed the all new Passat, from a marketing perspective its aimed at a more premium conscious buyer, think  3-Series or C-Class man. In reality its a posher D-Class alternative to the down and out Ford Mondeo or highly underrated  Peugeot 508. Its a much crisper, cleaner exterior design and VW say everything is new from technologies to the engines, a Plug-in Electric hybrid version will use a 1.4 TSi engine, the combined power output of 208bhp will have a claimed electric range of 31 miles and a combined range of 600 miles. Ahem. Typically VW will offer a wide variety of engine options, around 10 direct injection turbocharged petrol and diesel engines . Power outputs range from 118bhp to 276bhp stop-start system and a regenerative braking is fitted as standard. The Passat’s new high-performance, four-cylinder, 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel deliver’s 240 PS and 500 Nm from 1,750 rpm and will be configured only with a new 7-speed gearbox and 4-wheel drive. Technology highlights include rear LED lights as standard, Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert, Emergency Assist, which can potentially halt a vehicle when the driver is incapacitated; and the latest Front Assist system with City Emergency Braking, which optionally combines both radar and camera sensors to add pedestrian detection. More optional tech includes a new Active 12.3-inch TFT info display; a heads-up display and the latest generation of Park Assist which can park the car itself forwards into perpendicular spaces, especially good if you want to avoid kerbing or damaging you pride and joy.
