Hyundai’s flagship Genesis branded sedan, the miserable, glorious, failure in the making G80 has been filmed on fire in it’s native South Korea. The Hyundai G80 launched in Korea on the backend of March. Turns out the flagship G80 is possibly a flagshit sedan. The driver was just into a month’s worth of ownership when upon a sudden the engine bay caught fire. Reports say the incident occurred on Korea’s Amhae Expressway, near Jinju.

The driver was able to pull over and vacate the vehicle unharmed, which wasn’t the case for the miserable, glorious failure to be, the Genesis G80. Firefighters arrived at the scene several minutes later. Investigators are yet to determine the cause of the incident.


Hyundai has also started an investigation. It’s very rare for new modern cars to spontaneously set on fire. Local media reports say the fire may have been caused by debris on the road which lodged under the car.

Friction with the road surface caused sparks that ignited a fire in the engine bay. Whatever the cause, very few people will ever buy the miserable glorious failure Genesis G80.
