There isn’t much value in the Mazda Vision Coupe Concept at all. Apart from looking super dope, apart from making a wow statement, it looks wow for sure outside and inside, but overall it offers very little value. Except maybe to Mazda’s marketing division and a bunch of students and pro-automotive designers. If Mazda made the Vision Coupe Concept for real then there would be no negative vibes from us.

While serving very little value the Mazda Vision Coupe Concept does actually serve a minor purpose. It is a one-eye into the future design language of the next-generation Mazda 6, which is expected to be unveiled in 2022. According to various sources, the 2022 Mazda 6 will lose the front-wheel-drive bias in favor of a rear-wheel-drive setup.

Rumors also suggest the addition of an inline straight-six engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, for the American market. Europeans will most probably have to make do with the 2.0-litre petrol engine. Although Mazda has also confirmed it is also developing an inline-six diesel engine. Why?

So why is Mazda transitioning to a rear-wheel-drive setup for the next-generation Mazda 6? To appeal to the keen driver among us all. And also it gives Mazda a new angle from which to approach their marketing campaigns. But as much as we here at DCB HQ like the Vision Coupe Concept we see little value in it all.

Why? because SUVs are the king at the moment and salon cars, sedans, is a shrinking market in an ever-changing consumer demand driven world.
