Meet The Most Pointless SUV of The Year, The VW T Roc Convertible
Auto News

If Range Rover couldn’t make the Evoke Convertible SUV work what chance does the all-new VW T Roc convertible have? Well first of all the Evoke convertible has an asking price of £50k before options. Correction, it did. That’s (was) a lot of money to pay to lose a lot of practicality and it kind-of makes a mockery of what an SUV is all about… practicality. No surprise to learn that the Evoke convertible was a sales flop. Chopping a roof off a car creates structural problems which are addressed by additional strengthening. And manufacturers will often say that the convertible edition is just as rigid as the fixed roof progenitor.

The latter is a big fat lie. But in the automotive industry, lies emanating from trusted and respected auto manufacturers are always conveniently accepted. Then there is another problem with convertibles, especially SUV convertibles, the roof. The foldable roof is stowed away in the rear boot. Obviously. But it eats into the boot capacity, therefore, hitting the practicality. Then the only item you can stow safely away is a tuna fish sandwich from Waitrose… from Lidl, I do apologise.

But if you’re willing to live with that real-word-first-world problem then you have another problem, specific to the UK. The weather. Let’s face it much of the UK isn’t exactly the south of France. So we have tried to discourage you as much as possible to avoid the VW T Roc. But being journalists we have a responsibility to be objective.

Objective journalism is a little bit like the VW T Roc, lamentable. However, whereas the T Roc exists, objective journalism no longer exists. Journalists these days are paid liars, that’s the way it is folks. You’ve got to look past the well-written paragraphs, and the serious-sounding soundbites only then is the bigger picture revealed. Which is just like the VW T Roc.

So here is the objectivity. The UK spec T-Roc Cabriolet is available in Design and R-Line. Two petrol engines – a 1.0-litre TSI 115 PS and a 1.5-litre TSI 150 PS – are offered, the latter available with a 7-speed DSG transmission, in addition to 6-speed manual versions of both. You also get 19-inch alloy wheels and lots of toys for between £26k and £31k.

Don’t buy it (objective journalism).
