Mad Max Verstappen Extends Red Bull Stay Until 2023
Formula One

Mad Max Verstappen has extended his Red Bull contract until 2023. He entered the sport at the tender age of 17 and has 8 victories to his name thus far. At 22 years-old Verstappen is now a veteran F1 driver. As a comparison it took Ayrton Senna 4 years to win his first F1 title, 2020 will mark Verstappen’s 5th year in the sport. Will 2020 be the year when he wins his first title?

Honda has made significant progress in their first year with Red Bull and the odds are that they will be able to match both Mercedes and Ferrari. However, Verstappen is still something of a wild card, his ability to win is in no doubt but he is still young and young men tend to be in a rush.

Being in a “rush” can lead to mistakes and Verstappen has made plenty, but he is experienced enough now to know better. All young F1 drivers will make mistakes, it is inevitable. Verstappen’s mistakes are often self-inflicted. Verstappen has already amassed a net worth of $16-25 million USD.

Verstappen’s stock is so high he is easily able to command a $20m USD per year salary. That’s not including sponsorships. Red Bull boss, Christian “Grand Poobah” Horner was naturally pleased with having Verstappen for the next three years:

“It is fantastic news for the team to have extended our agreement with Max up-to and including the 2023 season.

“With the challenge of the 2021 regulation changes on the horizon continuity in as many areas as possible is key.

“Max has proven what an asset he is to the team, he truly believes in the partnership we have forged with our engine supplier Honda, and we are delighted to have extended our relationship with him.”
