The new BMW 1 Series Mini Electric will never sound electrifying because EV’s do not make a sound. You will get residual wind and tyre noise inside and out because of what scientists call… physics. But this BMW 1 Series Mini EV will retail at an entry level £24k, once you factor in government EV subsidies.

Performance will be sourced from the BMW i3 so that is a 32kWh battery and electric motor which equates to an equivalent 181bhp and 199lb ft of torque. Around 270Nm in old English. Top speed is limited to 93mph and the 0-62 mph time takes 7.3 seconds.

As with all early adopters, you kind of get short changed when it comes to electric vehicle range. Mini says the BMW 1 Series Mini Electric has a range of 144 miles.. However, using a 50kW charger means you can recharge up to 80 percent in 35 minutes.

Most electric cars are not the first world in handling, the low mounted batteries give the excellent centre of balance. However, the additional 145kg of weight over the gasoline version kills the handling.

The interior is exactly the same as you will find in other BMW Minis, same equipment, and trim levels. However, it does get yellow interior trim accents to differentiate it from other BMW Minis.

The BMW 1 Series Mini Electric is available to order now, first deliveries will commence in March 2020. Outside of the UK, the BMW Mini Electric will be known as the Mini Cooper SE.
