2019 Model S & Model X Updates is Tesla Saying: You wanna piece of me? come on getta’ piece of ME!
Auto News

Tesla has introduced a range of updates to the 2019 Model S and Model X. The updates pertain to an increase in range, a price drop and a revised powertrain. The new powertrain is actually already in use with the Model 3, the permanent magnet motor replaces the front mounted induction motor previously used by both the Model S and Model X. The rear motor retains the use of an induction motor.

The Model S is now rated to deliver around 370 miles, the Model X 325 miles, both on a single charge. This represents an increase of 35 miles and 30 miles respectively. The permanent magnet motor offers significant system efficiency improvements over induction motors because they are not always in use. This, in turn, creates more drag.

However onboard computers decide when best to utilise each motor, so when you floor the throttle you really won’t notice what the fuss is about.

Adaptive air suspension is now included as standard on both the Model S and Model X. The computer controlled suspension will iron out bumps with predictive algorithms. In other words, long distance cruising will be comfortable.

And if you want a sportier drive the suspension can stiffen up at a touch of a button. Or should that be a touchscreen. At no extra cost, Ludricous Mode is now standard on both models.

Previously Ludicrous Mode was a $20,000 optional extra, it’s a slap in the face performance mode that offers hypercar levels of acceleration. The 0-60mph takes just 2.4 seconds.

Mind you the standard car was already quick, the 0-60mph time took just 3.0 seconds. Was Ludicrous Mode really worth an extra $20,000 for 6-tenths? For some, it was worth it.

Tesla has also reduced the amount of time it takes to charge either the product by 50 percent. So, in conclusion, these updates are restricted to the powertrain. Tweaks if you will.

There are no styling updates for the exterior or interior, no material upgrades or special limited edition trim. It’s really about improved efficiency and longer range.

The updates are really designed to keep Tesla ahead of the game. The company will soon have competition from Audi and BMW for the luxury electric car sector. And to a much, much, much, much lesser extent… Jaguar.

And it’s also about lower prices, the Model S now starts at $79,000 and the Model X starts from $84,000. Both are available to order now, from a website near you.
