Going back to the future happens in the movies right? Wrong. Not if you are Ares Design. The coachbuilder from Italy is finally showing off its latest retro-inspired creation. using the Ferrari 412 as a muse Ares Design deconstructed a GTC4Lusso and handcrafted this as yet unnamed… something.

The Ferrari GTC4Lusso is a 2+2 Grand Tourer, blessed with 4-wheel-drive, 681bhp and 697 Nm of torque, and is capable of reaching a top speed of 208mph. Ares Design renamed the car Project Pony which is a rather mealy-mouthed moniker. presumably for now. The shooting-brake style Ferrari GTC4Lusso costs £249k new, a used example around three years old is starts from £155k. The original Ferrari 412 didn’t sell an awful amount, indeed only 576 were ever made. The naturally aspirated V12 pumped out 340bhp. Modest by today’s standards. But what the Ferrari GTC4Lusso represents is progress. So we don’t get the retro-inspired design. I mean it looks great but you should always be looking at the next sunrise, not yesterdays sunset. However, the stupidly named Project Pony has a body made from carbon fiber. The interior has been restyled and only the finest leathers and components have been used. So how much does all of this handcrafted work cost? No official word on that front but expect to pay around £700k.
