I know, we said we would never again feature a crash from ‘the ring’ because it’s becoming too repetitive. The narrative usually goes like this. Crash, comment… NEXT! So that’s why we decided to retire from Nurburgring crash updates. We’re done with it, or so we thought. However, like Jupiter’s super gravity ‘the ring’ keeps pulling us towards it.
And Like the very best hypocrites (and because it’s a slow news day) we are featuring this Nurburgring epic. An illustration of incompetent driving? Well, let’s not be too judgemental. The incident occurred during the VLN Endurance Championship – Nurburgring. John Shoffner has been identified as the driver who entered the corner at high speed just after Flugplatz straight. Taking too much speed Shoffner enters the apex way too deep and scuttles over the grass verge which acts like a ramp and launches his 911 GT3 Cup briefly into the air and into multiple barrel rolls. Fortunately, the Porsches’ roll cage allowed Shoffner to walk away from the crash with nothing more than a vivid memory of the crash.
