Death of The Diesel Begins As Germany Outlaws Older Cars From Entering Cities
Industry News
So it begins, Germany has become one of the first countries in Europe to ban older diesel cars from entering cities across the vaterland, a ban that is effective immediately. European regulations are increasingly becoming more stringent, especially so upon the revelations that car manufacturers, in particular, VW, were falsifying emissions test results to pass already tough emission laws. There was only ever going to be one solution, ban older types of diesel cars from cities. Germany’s top administrative court ruled in favor of the ban after the European Commision made official a complaint against Germany’s failure to improve air quality specifically in its cities. It appears the German state is punishing car manufactures for failing to meet emissions targets, in February environmental groups were invited to sue cities that have done little to enforce clean air targets. It seems odd that car manufacturers are against the ban considering the key chemical element emitted by diesel cars, Nitrogen oxide, is known to cause respiratory disease. This dissent for the value of human life is at odds with car manufacturers who make and project an image of safety through marketing campaigns in order to convince people of the merits in buying a BMW or VW. So if car manufacturers can spend money to make cars much safer for its occupants why are they so resistant to making cars that are also safer for the environment? It all comes down to the money, for modern day companies, when money is involved the sanctuary of the protection for human life has little value. As expected the German car industry has opposed the ban, out of embarrassment as much as the predicted $14bn estimate it will cost to implement hardware fixies for polluting diesel cars. The current Germany government, led by Angela Merkle, is openly protectionist of German car manufacturing, yet it has no control of European environmental policies, despite accusations of being the De-Facto leader of Europe. Statistics show, of the 15 million diesel cars operating on German roads today, around 3 million comply with Euro 6 emissions technology. German car manufacturers are arguing that Euro 5 compliant cars should not be banned, which is strange because these cars are known to have had emissions results falsified. The German car manufacturing industry only has itself to blame, by putting up a false image of being concerned for the environment and by hiding behind a carefully crafted image of respectability it is now whining about new laws that will potentially save human life.  Angela-Merkle-Really-Likes-Dailycarblog
