The all-new A6 is here, move over BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E Class, its a slightly bolder look now with subtle flame-surfacing detail that marks out the new generation A6 from its predecessor. The A6 has always been a de-scaled version of the A8 and so the design language continues to follow this known heritage into 2018.

The same can be said for the interior, its now completely revised, the twin-deck touchscreen (8.8-inch upper screen & 8.6-in lower screen) design language layout is borrowed from the A8, all big Audis will eventually receive this technology upgrade.

A larger 10.1-inch upperscreen is optional when specified with the MMI navigation plus. The Audi Virtual Cockpit with its 12.3-inch high-resolution in-binnacle is optional.

The A6 also switches to a mild-hybrid engine setup, so-called because the car adopts an alternator belt starter, 48-volt battery, and lithium-ion battery.

This arrangement is designed to switch off the engine when coasting between 34-99mph yet all electrical functions are maintained.

Available at launch will be the usual for-business-man 2.0-litre diesel and petrol engines in addition to the 3.0-litre 282bhp V6 and 3.0-litre V6, 335bhp turbocharged petrol.

All models are 7-speed DGSs (triptronic in Audi-speak), the higher performance models will be equipped with 8-speed DSG’s.

In a bid to take on the sportier 5 Series Audi have added rear-wheel steering and speed-sensitive steering.

The A6 has steel spring suspension, as standard. The sports suspension, sports suspension with damper control and the adaptive air suspension, also with controlled damping is optional.

Audi say the new A6 is roomier than before, but it already was. The technology isn’t just limited to the new interior dash.

The latest driver safety and assist technologies will be available, just be prepared for an expensive options menu.

Our favorite has to be Garage Pilot which leaves the parking chores to the A6, while it remotely parks up by itself you fit in a session of Fifa18 on the Playstation.

Indeed the A6 is packed full of sensors and radars and semi-autonomous driving tech.

The new A6 will be available to order in the UK by summer, prices will be announced when Audi releases a conveniently timed Press Release.
