Top Gear Revisited: When Top Gear Used To Be Watchable And Funny?
Video

It’s kind of interesting, this episode of Top Gear was made when the internet had the MB/s of a sunken souffle. Back in 2008, the internet was recovering from a burst bubble, Netflix was a tiny company selling and renting DVD’s and YouTube was considered to be as threating as day following night. Back then the TV was the dominant form of audio-visual entertainment for the masses.

In the years since this episode of Top Gear was made there has been a shift from terrestrial TV to internet everything and everywhere via smartphones, tablets, and Smart TVs.

Change is what we are getting at here. Even Jeremey Clarkson faced change when he was rewarded for physically assaulting a Top Gear colleague, how?

Clarkson was rightly sacked by the BBC and was subsequently awarded a multi-million dollar contract with Amazon Prime to produce an exclusively online motoring show.

His disciples, Hammond and May followed suit and The Grand Tour will probably be the last motoring programme the trio will make together.

We’ll give it another season or three before they decide to call it a day not because of ratings, but because they will have come to the conclusion that they have done and given everything they can give.

By this point, they will be financially secure. What happens after that is a complete mystery, the show could continue with a trio of new presenters perhaps @autoalex will be one them.

Top Gear has given rise to numerous tribute acts, notably Car Throttle and … er… many more have been inspired by Clarkson, Hammond and May.

But whatever happens, Top Gear became a must watch with Clarkson Hammond and May and now? It’s more Fifth Gear than Top Gear.

Matt Le Blanc is the only decent presenter, the other two… meh.
