This Happens When Your Classic Formula 5000 Car Suffers Rear Wing Failure At 120mph

The venue is Pukekohe Park Raceway ( yes it really is called that) New Zeland and the massive shunt occurred when 75-year old veteran racer Ken Smith’s, 1970’s Lola T332 had a dramatic wing failure at 120mph.

The shunt brought out a red flag period, both involved were able to walk away but the Lola crumpled like paper when it hit the wall.

Just shows how superior modern day open wheel cars have become with all the carbon fiber.

This is a case when one can say we’re really glad it wasn’t like the old days.
