The Nurburgring Becomes The Victim of Yet Another Obscure Lap Record
Auto News
OK so we haven’t been updating much, we needed some quality time playing video games, the damn back spasms didn’t help either. Germany’s Nurburgring has seen it’s fair share of lap records, there doesn’t seem to be a week gone by that someone has set yet another Green Hell record. This time it’s the turn of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. If you are from England then the ZL1 1LE sounds like a postcode (zip-code) but this zip-code hides a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that produces 650 bhp and 881Nm of torque. The ZE1 1EL is no postcode lottery it’s 60ibs lighter than a standard V8 Camaro and features a number of aerodynamic and sophisticated suspension tweaks to allow it to properly tackle any corner. These tweaks cost an extra $7500 dollars which rasises the total cost of the Camaro postcode to $70k.
The 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE has conquered Nürburgring’s 12.9-mile (20.8 km) Nordschleife (“north loop”) in 7:16.04, making it the fastest Camaro to ever lap the famed German track. The ZL1 1LE’s time is quick enough to place it 13.56 seconds ahead of the Camaro ZL1 with 10-speed automatic that Chevrolet tested last year. “With chassis adjustability unlike any vehicle in its peer group, the Camaro ZL1 1LE challenges supercars from around the world regardless of cost, configuration or propulsion system,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer.
